Temp Controlled Comments

Total Transit Time for Perishable Shipments

How do you calculate total transit time hours for your perishable shipments?

This is often calculated differently by LSPs/TSPs (logistics/transport service providers) and shippers.

Normally the LSP will "start the clock" when the shipment is picked up, however this calculation might be wrong and the available validated transit time is actually shorter than expected. Often when the shipment is picked up, it has already been packed in its validated transport container for a few hours or even was finalized the day before pick up. Shippers will generally document the pack out time (or when the box was closed) and this would be the correct time to "start the clock".

Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals Conference 2016

Unitrans partner Pharmafreight speaks at the Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals Conference at Heathrow Airport on 22/23 November 2016. The topic includes determining key performance measures for air cargo pharma supply chain and how to set consistently high standards.

Brussels Airport Creates First Pharma Transporter

Brussels Airport (BRU) unveiled its huge "airside pharma transporter" at TIACA's Air Cargo Forum in Paris. According to Loadstar News, it includes real-time location tracking, a temperature audit trail, a common-use equipment pool and no over-engineering. Prices for acquiring the transporter have not been announced.

Equipment Qualification and Route Risk Assessment

The Journal of Pharmaceutical Outsourcing has an in-depth look at regulatory requirements, transport risk assessment and equipment qualification requirements.

15 Years of Research Lost

A whitepaper on Temperature Data by Elpro describes several cases where temperature monitoring plays a role, among them a case where a University lost 15 years of research due to faulty equipment.

Security News

Holidays Pose Increased Theft Activity

Holidays such as Thanksgiving always pose increased theft activity, the Pharmaceutical Cargo Security Coalition PCSC warns. You can avoid supply chain disruptions by confirming your consignees' open hours during the holiday. Also, if you are using GPS technology, set up "geo-fencing" to send alarms upon unscheduled freight movements. Please click here for further advice on securing your freight and contact us if you want to discuss in depth.
