Unitrans Update

Quick International Acquires Unitrans International

Quick International Courier ("Quick"), a highly specialized asset-light logistics provider of complex transport solutions for mission-critical goods, has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Unitrans International Corporation. "The combination of Quick and Unitrans will create one of the premier asset-light logistics providers of complex transport solutions for the Life Sciences industry," said Dominique Bischoff-Brown, CEO of Quick.

Unitrans will be an additional division under the Quick umbrella and will continue with the same name, management, skilled employees and dedication to providing exceptional logistics services.

This transaction is expected to be finalized mid-September 2017. Please contact Unitrans for more information.

Envirotainer adds RAP e2 stations in Italy and Puerto Rico

Envirotainer announced the addition of new RAP e2 active container stations at airports in Italy and Puerto Rico. The new Italy station will serve the Milan Linate (LIN) and Milan-Malpensa (MXP) airports, and the new station in Puerto Rico will serve the San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín Airport (SJU).

Qatar Airways Signs Agreement with DoKaSch

Qatar Airways Cargo has signed an agreement with DoKaSch Temperature Solutions to offer the Frankfurt-based equipment specialist's Opticooler range of temperature-controlled containers for transporting pharma products. The active containers keep the cargo within a temperature range of +2 to +8 degrees celsius or 15 to 25 degrees celsius.

Airfreight prices jump in July

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air freight markets showing that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), increased by 11.4%. The robust growth in air cargo demand is consistent with an uptick in global trade, rising export orders and upbeat business confidence indicators.

Gilead is buying Kite Pharma

Santa Monica biotech company Kite Pharma Inc. is being acquired by industry giant Gilead Sciences Inc. in an $11.9-billion deal that demonstrates the promise of using a person's own immune system to fight cancer.

Thermo Fisher Acquires Patheon

Thermo Fisher completes its acquisition of Patheon for $7.2 billion, including debt. Patheon reported revenue of roughly $1.9 billion last year. The company will now become part of its acquirer's laboratory products and services segment.

FDA Offers Draft Guidance to Secure Drug Supply Chain

Last month, FDA released new draft guidance to help industry, state and local governments categorize the entities in the drug supply chain in accordance with the DSCSA and help clarify help clarify which companies are engaged in activities that require licensure and annual reporting.

Increase in Registration Fee for Medical Device Facilities

The Food and Drug Administration has increased the fee for medical device facility registrations by 37 percent for fiscal year 2018. The medical device facility registration period will be open Oct. 1 through Dec. 31.
