Brazil Customs Strike Continues

Brazilian customs worker's strike has entered into its eighth week due to wages and governmental changes to retirement age and other benefits. Shipper and carriers are experiencing delays of up to 8 days in Brazil due to the boycotting. The greatest impact is at the ports and for truck drivers at the Argentina and Uruguay borders, according to local media reports. Booked containers are missing their sailings causing accumulation of detention and demurrage fees, and ships are leaving ports without all of their scheduled loads resulting in loss of revenue.

Union leaders that represent Customs office workers say they will continue to strike until the government grants them a higher wage, as well as drops a plan to raise the retirement agent and cut other benefits. If you have any questions, please contact your local Unitrans Service representative

Cathay Pacific Expecting Strong Q1

Cathay Pacific Cargo is expecting a strong start to 2018 due to demands remaining strong for the first quarter. Shippers are already looking to secure space and expect rates to rise. The airline's latest cargo statistics show that demand over the first 11 months of the year has increased by 11% year on year to 1.9bn kgs. Its cargo load factor for the month stood at 71.6% compared with 68.1% last year.
