Temp Controlled Comments

Cool Nordic Hub at Helsinki Airport

Finnair Cargo's new airside facility at Helsinki airport measures 31,000 sq. m, has a capacity of 350,000 tons per year and has 3,000 sq. m dedicated areas for both pharma and perishables shipments. The facility is also in the process of achieving IATA CEIV Pharma certification.

va-Q-tec and Japan Airlines

va-Q-tec and Japan Airlines announced this week to cooperate globally in cold chain logistics. This cooperation will extend availability of passive thermal containers in Asia.

Happy Holidays

Unitrans International wishes you peace, prosperity, health, and great happiness this joyous holiday season!

Please be careful with your freight arrangements. The Pharma Cargo Security Coalition PCSC warns that holiday breaks traditionally have the most cargo thefts and to confirm that shipment dates coincide with your clients' open hours. Please read the PCSC's security alert or ask Unitrans for further advice.

Security News

FDA to Pharma Firms

Pharma companies have until the end of December 2017 to update or certify drug listings. Failure to submit by this deadline may result in FDA action.

DEA Launches new Division

From our friends at the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Security Coalition: DEA's first new division in nearly 20 years will be located in Lexington, Kentucky. The new division aims to better align enforcement efforts within Appalachia and produce more effective investigations on heroin, fentanyl and prescription opioid trafficking. This change will help align DEA's resources with other federal agencies.

Blockchain and Supply Chain Security

The pharmaceutical industry must comply with the United States Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) calling for the tracking and authentication of returned drugs. Blockchain technology has adapted well to Merck's pharma supply chain.

Compliance and Trade Corner

FDA/EU Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)

A newly revised version of the MRA, once fully implemented, will allow the FDA and the EU inspectorates to use inspection reports obtained during GMP inspections to help determine whether statutory and regulatory requirements of the respective authorities have been met. For an in-depth look at the MRA, see the Life Science Leader article.

Pharma R&D Investments

The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) tracks worldwide pharma sales and the percentage of which goes into pharma research and development. Between 2008 and 2014, when it had a full set of numbers to look at, the hard dollars spent jumped from $82 billion to $89 billion, a hike of 8.5%.
